Adherence to Internet RFCs
Standards
SLmail is built entirely on open
Internet standards instead of locked-in proprietary protocols. These open
protocols allow everyone's software to work together.
Internet protocols are specified
by documents called RFCs (Requests for Comments). SLmail adheres to essentially
all the RFCs that relate to mail handling in any way, including the following:
RFC 821 -
Simple Mail Transport Protocol
RFC
822 - Internet Mail Format (types of addressing)
RFC
876 - Survey of SMTP Implementations
RFC
1123 - Requirements for Internet Hosts
RFC
1153 - Digest Method Format
RFC
1288 - Finger Access Protocol
RFC
1339 - Remote Mail Checking Protocol
RFC
1651 - SMTP service extensions (ESMTP)
RFC
1653 - SMTP Extension for Message Size Declaration
RFC
1725 - Post Office Protocol - Version 3
- RFC
1985 - Extended Turn
A protocol specified by Qualcomm
(makers of Eudora™) for changing passwords from a mail client is also
implemented.
