The Logging page found within the SLmail Web-based Administration utility is the central control for setting logging options. In the Option/Output section is a list of each logging option and the option's current output status.
These options allow you to select various levels of logging. For SMTP sessions, for example, you may choose (from the least to the most extensive) SMTP General, SMTP Session Progress, SMTP Extended Progresses, and SMTP Debug. For each of the protocols supported by SLmail, you can also turn on Debugging information. When you are finished setting your Logging options, click Save .
Note: Logging of debugging information should only be enabled when actually debugging a mail problem; it should then be disabled or it will consume excessive system resources. While you are debugging, you should keep an eye on the disk space used by the logs.
SLmail has the capability to switch logs automatically at periodic intervals. To access this capability, use the Change Log File list box located at the top left of the dialog box and select the desired interval of time. In most cases, it is best to set this option to Daily .
The Standard Options box allows you to set overall mail logging options to one of three preset configurations: Standard, Debug, or Extended. In most situations it is best to use Standard .
By default SLmail uses the Standard logging option.
You can view a Log File by clicking the View Log File button, located under the various logging options. This will display the most recent portion of your maillog.txt file in the box below.
Note: SLmail will not delete old log files. It is important for the system administrator to regularly clean up old log files in order to conserve disk space.
